AAMA American Architectural Manufacturers Association was founded in 1935. This association was formed by window and door manufacturers and suppliers to develop specification standards and test methods for the fenestration industry. In 1998, the Board of Directors of AAMA approved the development and implementation of the Installation Masters Training and Registration Program. The program has been developed to include both new construction and replacement of residential and light commercial windows and exterior glass doors.
90% of the vinyl profiles produced in North America are AAMA certified. The AAMA label states the tested structural rating of the window and denotes the participation of the window manufacturer in the AAMA Certification Program. The 2000 International Building Code (IBC) states that "aluminum, vinyl and wood exterior windows and glass doors shall be labeled as conforming to AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S.2" and further requires that the design pressure rating be in accordance with AAMA/NWWDA 101/IS2.
